International Emergency Medicine Opportunities with International Medical Corps

International Medical Corps - emergency medicine opportunities

Ross Donaldson is an emergency physician at UCLA, ACEP member and Fellow, and ACEP IEM Section member who is doing a lot of work for a group called IMC--Int'l Medical Corps.  He is in charge of emergency medicine and disaster care for IMC, and is looking for people interested in helping out with their many projects in international emergency medicine, disaster relief, post-conflict EM development, and other projects.  Ross is currently exploring forming relationships between IMC and several of the EM societies

Background

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.  It has been a leader in global emergency and disaster training for over twenty-five years, with a long record of strengthening health systems in challenging environments.

International Medical Corps has provided large-scale emergency and disaster training and system support in numerous middle- and low-income countries around the world, educating tens-of-thousands of people in life-saving skills.  Recent large-scale emergency and disaster projects include Afghanistan, Bosnia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iraq, and Haiti.

The International Medical Corps' Emergency & Disaster Care (EDC) development programs have several current and upcoming opportunities for Emergency Medicine personnel.  See below for the individual opportunities and contact directions, if interested.  Please feel free to forward this email to additional parties.

Emergency Response

6)  Emergency Response Volunteers

Our volunteer focus is the provision of life-saving emergency health services, primary health care, public health, and emergency nutrition. International Medical Corps is looking for highly trained medical staff to add to our emergency response roster, which requires that volunteers be willing to deploy rapidly—usually within 72 hours—and for a duration of 2–8 weeks.
