Portuguese Translation Taskforce

Objectives of the Portuguese Translation Taskforce:

  • Translate IFEM resources, newsletters and website into Portuguese and facilitate dissemination of the translated materials to emergency medicine educators and providers in Portuguese-speaking countries.
  • Translate the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Care Toolkit into Portuguese and facilitate dissemination of the translated materials to emergency medicine educators and providers in Portuguese-speaking countries.
  • Support WHO or IFEM member emergency care trainings in Portuguese speaking countries, including COVID-19 trainings.
  • Support WHO or IFEM led health system planning exercises in Portuguese speaking countries, such as the Emergency Care System Assessment.
  • Cultivate a collaborative community of IFEM members dedicated to advancing emergency care in Portuguese-speaking countries.

Dr Nicholas Risko | Co-Chair
American College of Emergency Physicians

Dr Nicholas Risko is Assistant Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Emergency Care and Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and his residency training and public health degree at Johns Hopkins University. He has extensive experience in health system strengthening and health economics related to global emergency care. He is a Brazilian-American devoted to improving access to high-quality emergency care in Portuguese speaking countries.

Dr Rodolfo Loureiro | Co-Chair
American College of Emergency Physicians

Dr Rodolfo Loureiro is an Emergency Medicine Attending Physician at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa. He is also an Affiliate Faculty at the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Emergency Care. He received his medical degree at the Florida State University College of Medicine and his residency training at Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he served as a Chief Resident. Dr Loureiro was born and raised in Brazil and he is passionate about bridging the gap and further expanding emergency care in Portuguese speaking countries.
