Portuguese Translation Taskforce
About
Objectives of the Portuguese Translation Taskforce:
- Translate IFEM resources, newsletters and website into Portuguese and facilitate dissemination of the translated materials to emergency medicine educators and providers in Portuguese-speaking countries.
- Translate the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Care Toolkit into Portuguese and facilitate dissemination of the translated materials to emergency medicine educators and providers in Portuguese-speaking countries.
- Support WHO or IFEM member emergency care trainings in Portuguese speaking countries, including COVID-19 trainings.
- Support WHO or IFEM led health system planning exercises in Portuguese speaking countries, such as the Emergency Care System Assessment.
- Cultivate a collaborative community of IFEM members dedicated to advancing emergency care in Portuguese-speaking countries.
Work and achievements
- We completed initial translations of all key resources in the WHO Emergency Care Toolkit and are now in the process of careful multi-national expert review of each material to ensure language and syntax is accurate and appropriate for all members of the global Lusophone audience. - WHO/ICRC/MSF Interagency Triage Tool
- We have supported the WHO in rolling out large-scale basic emergency care and COVID-19 training in Guinea Bissau, including providing translated materials and virtual lectures.
- We have also supported the WHO Emergency Care System Assessment, a high-level health system planning exercise, in Guinea Bissau by translating key tools and documents.
- We continue to grow our network and expand participation in the mission of improving access to high-quality emergency care in Portuguese speaking countries, drawing in about 40 members from an initial group of six.
