White Paper on the Important Interface of Public Health Principles in Emergency Care System Design
Public health and emergency care are deeply interconnected. From prevention and health equity to pandemic preparedness, climate change and disaster response, public health principles play a critical role in shaping resilient and effective emergency care systems.
Developed by the IFEM Public and Environmental Health Special Interest Group (PEHSIG), this white paper explores key areas where public health and emergency care intersect and considers how stronger integration can help reduce preventable illness, strengthen preparedness and improve emergency care delivery globally.
The paper also provides recommendations for embedding public health principles into emergency care system design, including prevention, health emergency preparedness, climate action, occupational health, emerging technologies and cross-sector collaboration.
