Thriving in Emergency Medicine: Developing Effective Staff Retention Masterclass—two-part webinar
Thriving in Emergency Medicine: Developing Effective Staff Retention Masterclass—two-part webinar
Global problem
Staff recruitment and retention in emergency medicine departments is a critical issue affecting emergency departments globally. There are estimated to be 10-20% vacancies in both doctors and nurses in most countries. The COVID-19 pandemic aggravated existing challenges, such as overcrowding and significant loss of emergency medicine staff due to burnout. These issues are not unique to a single country but are part of a broader international crisis that requires urgent and comprehensive solutions.
This webinar aims to tackle this pressing issue through a structured, evidence-based approach. IFEM will provide valuable insights and practical strategies to a global audience, fostering a more supportive and sustainable work environment for emergency medical professionals.
This webinar and its resources will deliver critical knowledge and actionable solutions to enhance staff recruitment and retention in emergency medicine, ultimately benefiting emergency medicine systems worldwide.
Target audience
The webinar will focus on engagement and retention strategies for emergency department staff of all grades and professions. Part One will include general evidence, summarize why staff recruitment and retention is a global emergency medicine problem, and offer evidence-based solutions. It is suitable for EVERYONE who works in emergency medicine and wants to maintain healthy teams.
Part two will be more suitable for those in a management position to apply what they have learned. Emergency medicine leaders and administrators should return after the break to take away actionable ideas to improve retention.
Registrations will be welcomed from non-medical staff, including nurses and hospital administrators.
Learning objectives
- Understand the current challenges and trends in healthcare staff retention
- Learn about evidence-based strategies to improve staff retention
- Describe why retaining experienced staff and reducing turnover is beneficial
- Identify stressors for retention: What attracts staff to a workplace? What causes them to leave
- Describe links between well-being and retention
Part Two:
- Develop an actionable plan tailored to your organization’s needs
- Identify opportunities for changing a culture from survive to thrive
