About
The IFEM Global Congress on Emergency Medicine, formerly the International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM), is the annual conference of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine, held over four days in June.
The first ICEM was held in London in 1986 as a collaborative effort between the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), the British Association for Emergency Medicine (BAEM) (now the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM)), and the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP). The IFEM Global Congress is the annual global peak conference in emergency medicine, bringing together emergency physicians and emergency care stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and health systems worldwide. The congress is a popular event for sharing, networking, hearing world-class speakers, and providing a window into emergency care and culture of the host region.
In 2026, as we welcome the world to Hamburg for our 25th ICEM, we also turn the page to a bold new chapter.
This milestone marks the commencement of our evolution into the IFEM Global Congress on Emergency Medicine.
This transition reflects the growth of our specialty and the elevation of IFEM’s role on the world stage. With the IFEM Global Congress, we firmly recognise emergency medicine as a foundational pillar of global health. Our congress is a gathering not just of attendees, but of nations, united to drive policy, education, and advocacy for Emergency Care.
While the name evolves, the spirit remains: the same vibrant community, committed to creating a world where everyone, in all countries, has access to high-quality emergency care.
Interested in hosting congress? We're now calling for expressions of interest for 2029.
