Simon Chu
Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
Chair, Emergency Medicine Practice Committee
Dr Simon Chu is a senior emergency consultant at the Lyell McEwin Hospital Emergency Department, located in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. He completed his specialist emergency medicine training in Sydney, Australia, and paediatric emergency medicine (PEM) training in London, Canada. Returning to Australia, he assisted with ongoing improvements in PEM services in his hospital, where he then took a detour in his career and went into medical education which led to the release of the revised FACEM specialist training program and curriculum for Australia and New Zealand in 2015. After serving as ACEM Deputy Censor-in-Chief and holding a position on the ACEM Board of Directors until 2018, he now devotes his time to ongoing advocacy in PEM on a regional basis, and as a senior accreditation inspector of training sites for ACEM.
Through his experience in lead advocacy and education committees within IFEM, he now has a renewed passion for IFEM work which has led to his current role. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling (which makes IFEM a good fit), good food, an appreciation of good wine, and being lead cellist in the Unley Symphony Orchestra whilst participating in other community and medical orchestras such as the Australian Doctors Orchestra.
