Dr Paul Ho

Vice President
Dr Paul Ho graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1986. He received his surgical training in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Hong Kong (HK) after graduation and was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 1991. He was admitted into the Academy of Medicine HK in 1994 as a specialist in general surgery. He was invited and moved to the Department of Accident & Emergency (AED) QEH in 1994 for pioneer development of trauma care in his hospital and Hong Kong. He was the consultant of AED QEH Hong Kong since 1996 and chief of the department during the period of 1999 – 2013 and 2019 till 2021. He was the founding fellow of the HK College of Emergency Medicine in 1997. He led the development of trauma care in QEH and in the territory. He assisted the development of trauma system in HK through designation of 5 trauma centers in 2003. Pre-hospital diversion network was established and territory trauma data was collected and reviewed. He was the founding chairman of the Central Committee on Trauma Service of Hospital Authority (HA) HK from 2005 – 08. He then chaired the Central Coordinating Committee of A&E Service of HA HK from 2009 – 11. He pioneered the establishment of emergency medicine ward in A&E HK in 2007.
He was the deputized hospital chief executive of QEH from 2013 – 19. He also carries honorary clinical lecturer and associate professor posts at the 2 medical schools in HK. Dr Ho was the President of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine (HKCEM) from 2011 – 2017. He was a board member of International Federation for Emergency Medicine from 2018-2020. His main interests are trauma care, geriatric emergency, end-of-life care and administrative medicine.
