Dr Lauren Lai King

Dr. Lauren Lai King is an Emergency Medicine Physician and a Fellow of the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa. She holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cape Town and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM).
Lauren is passionate about strengthening regional research capacity that promotes contextually appropriate evidence-based packages of care thereby supporting equitable, accessible, and sustainable emergency care systems for all communities.
As the African Regional Representative on the IFEM Board, Lauren is committed to fulfilling the IFEM mission and vision through bidirectional knowledge exchange, partnerships and collaboration, which provides a global platform to share valuable insights into the diverse contexts of the region and amplify the voices of emergency care practitioners in Africa.
