The Dutch Association of Accident and Emergency Physicians (NVSHA) is the scientific professional association of emergency physicians (A&E physicians) and physicians in training to become emergency physicians. The goal of the association is an equally high quality of care in all emergency departments by ER doctors who are present 24/7.
The patients in the emergency department have an acute need for help and are therefore very vulnerable. Care for these patients used to be provided by the youngest, most inexperienced doctors. That is why initiatives were started to train special doctors for work in the emergency department. These doctors ensured a strong improvement in the quality of care and they united in 1999 by establishing the NVSHA.
There is now a national training program and approximately 550 A&E physicians work in 82 hospitals. As an association we are proud of the care we provide in the emergency room, but there is always room for improvement! That is why we strive for even better training and we provide a lot of refresher training for emergency room doctors and doctors from other specialties.
We believe that everyone who comes to emergency care is entitled to the best care and we are committed to this within the hospital and beyond!
