Purpose of the Emergency Medicine Development Committee

The Emergency Medicine Development Committee (ECDC) is a standing committee of IFEM supporting IFEM’s broad goals of “promoting access to and leading the development of the highest quality of emergency medical care for all people”.

It will delegate operational matters to its constituent groups: the Membership Group, the Regional Forum Group and Policy Development Group.

The Committee will advocate for and support countries in which emergency medicine is developing, towards goals which may include:

  • developing a national society
  • achieving specialty status at national level
  • promoting sustainability and growth of emergency medicine as a specialty and as a career


Function of the Emergency Medicine Development Committee

The Emergency Medicine Development Committee serves to:

  • develop relevant reference materials and liaise with appropriate consultants and technical experts to assist in the development of the specialty of emergency medicine in countries where the specialty is yet to mature;
  • assist the Council in supporting the needs of nations and regions which are developing Emergency Medicine as a specialty, who are not yet members
  • be responsible for drafting responses to specific requests for specialty development assistance
  • assume oversight of functions and responsibilities of regional representatives and associate societies
  • assist the communications and marketing team in keeping IFEM’s website up to date and relevant
