Purpose of the Research Group

The IFEM Research Committee supports high-quality emergency medicine research globally. The committee’s purpose aligns with IFEM’s mission to improve emergency medical care worldwide through evidence-based practice and knowledge dissemination.

Function of the Research Group

The Research Group serves to:

  • Facilitate and encourage international collaborations and partnerships in emergency medicine research.
  • Support IFEM member societies in research efforts, including guidelines, mentorship, and resources.
  • Foster innovative approaches and continuous improvements in emergency medicine research.
  • Recognize outstanding contributions to emergency medicine research at IFEM events.
  • Facilitate the dissemination of research findings through IFEM publications, conferences, and online resources
  • Provide expert technical support and advice on emergency medicine research to emergency care staff and researchers, including developing guidelines, training resources, and knowledge-sharing platforms
  • Offer mentorship to emerging researchers
  • Coordinate with the ICEM Local Organising Committee to ensure smooth processes for the annual IFEM research awards
  • Participate in the abstract review process for ICEM, collaborating with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and ensuring fair, unbiased reviews.
  • Assist the ICEM conference Local Organising Committee in providing sessions relating to emergency medicine research (lectures, workshops, marketplace stalls, as invited)


Group Work and Achievements

CENTER-TBI
Is the first project to be endorsed by IFEM. It is a large European project that aims to improve the care for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Research Primers
The IFEM Core Curriculum and Education Committee and the Research Committee have collaborated on the development of the below suite of Research Primers. View and download Research Primers.

Collaboration with the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine (AACEM)
In 2019, the Committee Chair and immediate past IFEM President collaborated with AACEM in the development of a questionnaire to be used to determine what involvement academic emergency departments have in international emergency medicine. After approval by the AACEM executive, surveys will be commenced, in the USA initially.
