IFEM PEMSIG White Paper
Lead authors: Drs Alyssa Abo (USA), Simon Chu (Australia), Rodrick Lim (Canada), and Colin Powell (UK/Qatar)
The PEMSIG white paper is a referenced document which highlights specific considerations that need to be addressed to optimise the delivery of emergency care to children that present at emergency departments/settings internationally. Optimising outcomes for children from Emergency Departments throughout the world will contribute to the foundation of a healthy society and reduce economic impact of illness and injury. The white paper includes four general recommendations to assist health system administrators to achieve this goal.
IFEM Paediatric Standards of Care V3
Lead author: Dr Rodrick Lim (Canada)
The PEMSIG standards of care document expands on the four general recommendations of the PEMSIG white paper, and provides a template for the Emergency Care of Children in developed and developing countries and. Previous lead authors include Drs Ffion Davies and Baljit Cheema. We are now on Version 3 of the document which has chapters and 168 pages. Version 3 was endorsed by the IFEM board in 2020 and has been translated into Spanish and Chinese.
PEMSIG Supplement to the IFEM Model Curriculum for Emergency Medicine Specialists
Lead authors: Dr Rahim Valani (Canada) and Simon Chu (Australia)
The PEMSIG group completed an international paediatric emergency medicine consensus educational document. The document is a supplement to the IFEM’s general emergency curriculum document, offering guidance on what would be considered essentials for the safe and competent management of paediatric emergencies by any clinician. It focuses on clinical presentations, procedural skills, and professional attitudes required to optimize emergency care of children. It supports recommendation three of the PEMSIG white paper.
