Swedish Society for Emergency Medicine
http://www.swesem.org/
Box 5610
Stockholm
Sweden
Full Member
The association was originally founded in 1999, by then linked to the Swedish Internal Medicine Association with the intention of becoming an independent association within a few years to represent the specialty emergency medicine. During the annual meeting in 2002, a decision was made to form the current association, the Swedish Society for Emergency Medicine (SWESEM) as an independent association for practitioners of emergency medicine.
The association has been participating since 2005 in the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM) and since 2006 in the global organization International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM). In 2015 emergency medicine became an independent medical specialty in Sweden and by that the fastest growing specialty with over 500 specialists in 2022.
SWESEM's main goal is to increase quality and patient safety in all Swedish emergency departments. By creating national networks, we also strive to promote research, education and development in emergency healthcare.
