Kavita Varshney

Dr Varshney is an Emergency Physician and Disaster Medicine Specialist at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia, where she is also the Deputy Director of the Emergency Department. She is an alumnus of the European Masters of Disaster Medicine. She has also completed the Harvard Simulation Course and the Stanford Course in clinical teaching – both qualifications in medical education and simulation. Kavita has attended and teaches on several professional development and courses in Disaster Medicine, Major Incident Management and CBR Response.
Kavita has many National and International Disaster Medicine presentations to her credit on topics including Epidemiology of Disasters in Australia, Healthcare during disasters, Biopreparedness,and Emergency Medicine during the pandemic. She has also chaired sessions at a number of local, national and international conferences.
Dr Varshney has real world disaster experience. She was part of the medical emergency team at the Sydney and London Olympics, she was a member of the Australia – New Zealand medical response team to treat patients in 2014 in the Solomon Islands following floods. Dr Varshney was also recognised and acknowledged by the NSW Premier for her extraordinary contribution to the NSW Bushfire Emergency in 2020. She has also made a huge contribution in planning, managing and working though the COVID19 pandemic.
